Reasons for abnormal sound of a hub:


1. Suspension system: including loose part, loose wheel hub screw, poor lubrication, rubber bushing damage or fatigue damage, and poor shock absorber function.

2. Axle system: including loose component, worn ball joint, poor lubrication, bent or cracked drive shaft, and worn wheel bearing.


How to prevent hub screws from loosening?


1. Before starting a trip, especially on freeways, always remember to inspect normal tyre pressure. Check if the tyres have been seriously worn and if the hub screws have loosened.

2. During a trip, closely follow the conditions of the car all the time, and watch out for any abnormal sound.

Process comparison


Comparison of high-frequency quenching process

The depth of the high-frequency quenching layer of the inner and outer rings of vika hub units is strictly controlled at 2.5 mm~3.5 mm;

The quenching depth of the hub units of other brands is either too shallow or too deep. A hub unit with too shallow quenching is not wear-resistant, and a hub unit with too deep quenching is prone to fracture.

Comparison of heat treatment process

The vika hub units are based on a Bainite process that leads to higher toughness and prevents cracking during rotation.

The hub units of other brands are based on a regular martensitic process that results in easy cracking during rotation.

Comparison of rolling process

The surface rolling finish of vika hub units reaches Rz0.2 grade. This rolling process is an alternative to corresponding heat treatment process.

The hub units of other brands have rough surfaces due to absence of rolling process, with a typical degree of finish of Rz10.


Technical comparison


Comparison of steel ball design

The curvature and position of each steel ball and clearance between balls and bearing of vika hub units are highly uniform. During operation, the steel balls rotate smoothly without any obstruction and are highly resistant to wear.

The wheel hub units of other brands have a large tolerance in the curvature of steel ball, and cannot rotate smoothly in an elliptical shape. The clearance with steel ball is uneven, which can easily accelerate the wear of the ball.


Comparison of material


The vika hub units make use of Japanese KYODO YUSHI AF-1 grease that can be used safely even under -20°C~170°C.

The hub units of other brands use regular grease, which has poor lubrication and is prone to volatilization. It may cause dry friction between the ball and the raceway, resulting in ball peeling.
