What are the purposes of hub unit?

Hub unit is a holistic hub device that integrates bearing, seal, sensor, and other relevant components. It is usually comprised of parts such as outer bearing, inner bearing, wheel hub, and sealing ring. A hub unit is installed on a wheel of a vehicle to support and drive the wheel.


Purposes of hub unit:


Wheel supporting: Installed on a vehicle wheel, a hub unit can support and bear the weight of the wheel and load transmitted from the road surface. It provides stable axle support through internal and external bearings, and allows the wheel to rotate smoothly.

Power transmission: A hub unit serves as the connection point between a wheel and the vehicle's transmission system. It transmits the power generated by the engine or electric motor to the wheel, thus driving the vehicle.

Suspension support: A hub unit works in conjunction with the vehicle's suspension system to provide suspension support for the vehicle. By alleviating vibration and impact resulting from uneven road surfaces, it leads to better riding comfort and stability.

Monitoring and control: Some modern hub units have also integrated sensors, such as wheel speed sensor and bearing temperature sensor. These sensors are capable of monitoring real-time wheel status such as speed and temperature, and sending the information to the vehicle's electronic control system to enable operation and control of relevant functions such as ABS (antilock braking system) and traction control.

Sealing protection: A hub unit is equipped with sealing rings and other internal sealing components, which can effectively keep dust, moisture, and other impurities from entering the bearing components, and maintain good lubrication and operation status. This contributes to a longer service life of the hub unit and lower maintenance workload.

In sum, hub unit serves multiple purposes for a vehicle, including supporting, power transmission, suspension support, monitoring and control, and sealing protection. It is therefore a crucial part for vehicle performance, safety, and comfort.

Advantages of vika hub unit:


1. Material:

Grease: The Kyodoyushi AF-1 grease designed specifically for vehicle hub bearing is adopted. It functions well even in harsh environment conditions (-20℃~170℃). Extreme pressure agent and oxidation-resistant stabilizing agent have been added for improved load capacity and protection against softening and leakage.

Steel ball: Every steel ball of vika hub unit is arranged in proper angles and positions to ensure uniform clearance with the ball bearing. The balls are able to rotate smoothly and not easy to wear in normal operation status.

2. Process:

High-frequency quenching process: The high-frequency quenched layer in inner and outer rings is 2.5-3.5 mm in depth. A long service life of bearings is achieved through strict control of quenching depth and the resulting hardness.

Thermal treatment process: A bainite steel process leads to higher toughness while suppressing rotation-induced cracks for longer durability.

Turning process: In a mud water design, mud water may be easily thrown out. In contrast, an automatic CNC turning process not only ensures smooth and tough tool patterns and uniform chamfer on component surfaces, but also leads to high dimensional accuracy and stability of each component.

Rolling process: Rolling in strict accordance with OE standards results in a surface finish degree of Rz0.2. It may serve as a substitute for corresponding thermal treatment process.
Thread: The threads with smooth surface are characterized by excellent self-locking and wear resistance, easy assembly, and high strength.

Gear broaching: The broaching tool moves from the groove bottom diameter, and completes forming operation in a single travel. As the required tolerance of guide teeth is ensured, the teeth can be installed more accurately.

Rotary riveting: The rotary riveting mouth has an arc shape generated through spinning in compliance with OE standard.
