Causes of common failures of EA888 third-generation electronic water pumps

05-28,2025

EA888 third-generation electronic water pumps typically experience failures such as coolant leakage, motor malfunction and generation of error codes at about 80,000 kilometers of mileage. The main causes include the following:

1. Reporting of error code P00B700

The mismatch between the product and the engine results in the reporting of fault code P00B700.

2. Aging of seals

EPDM seals will gradually lose their elasticity, age, crack or wear out after long use, thus leading to coolant leakage.

Long-term leakage may corrode the metal structure inside a water pump and accelerate its damage.

3. Motor short circuit or burnout

Long-term operation of the motor can lead to aging of the coil insulation, especially when coolant leaks into the interior of the motor and results in short circuit.
Frequent start/stop can increase motor load and accelerate fatigue.

4. Damage of water seal or bearing

Water seal rupture or bearing damage can result in coolant leakage.

5. Use of counterfeit and low-quality coolant

Counterfeit and low-quality coolant leads to scale, severe rust, and jamming of the sliding valve.

vika STO EA888 third-generation electronic water pumps

Advantages of vika STO EA888 third-generation electronic water pumps:

1. The upgraded water seal structure with a single carbon groove is not prone to wear and cracking, and has a longer service life.

2. The slide valve drive shaft water seal is made of HNBR, which is highly resistant to corrosion, high temperature, and leakage.

3. The stressed surface area of gear and worm is larger and the motor damping force is lower. The material has been upgraded to PA46. As a result, the product is more wear-resistant, does not deform, does not get stuck, and has strong durability.

4. Belgium Melexis chips are used for the angle sensors to guarantee stable signals.
