What are possible symptoms of a failed brake disc?

12-22,2025

When a brake disc fails, various symptoms cany occur. They may not only affect braking performance, but also pose safety risks.

Possible symptoms of a failed brake disc:

Abnormal brake noises:

1. Continuous "hissing" or "squealing" sounds occur when the brake is applied gently or forcefully, and disappear after the brake is released.

2. Low-frequency muffled sounds occur during braking, accompanied by noticeable vibration in the brake pedal.

Brake vibration:

When the brake is applied gently at high speeds, there is noticeable vibration in the steering wheel or vehicle body, and the vibration disappears after the brake is released.

How to determine if a brake disc needs to be replaced?

Determine the wear limit thickness:

When the brake disc reaches the "minimum thickness" mark due to wear or the wear depth reaches 2 mm, it must be replaced.

Determine the wear depth:

When the wear depth on the friction surface of the brake disc exceeds one-third of its total thickness, it should be preferably replaced even if the minimum wear thickness has not been reached.

Observe surface condition:

If grooves deeper than 1mm, blue burn marks, obvious cracks, or edge burrs appear on the surface of the brake disc, it typically needs to be replaced.

vika brake disc

Advantages of vika brake disc:

1. It is developed using the original aluminum & iron bi-metal structure of OE products.

2. The material of the friction ring features high damping and excellent resistance to high temperatures.

3. The lightweight structure leads to better overall vehicle maneuverability, improves heat dissipation and resistance to thermal degradation, and guarantees more stable and reliable braking performance.
