Liquid leakage, especially coolant leakage, is a common failure of BMW B48 engines. It is often caused by aging of specific components or design defects.

Parts of a BMW B48 engine that may experience leakage:

1. Water pump

Cause of leakage: Aging and damage of water pump seal is one of the common causes of leakage of B48 engines.

Solution: Replace the water pump assembly directly to avoid repeated repair when leakage occurs at other points.

2. Oil filter

Cause of leakage: The base is made of plastic material. At high temperatures, the base may easily deform, and the internal sealing gasket may age, leading to mixing of oil and liquid or leakage.

Solution: Use a modified oil filter assembly made entirely of aluminum instead.

3. Thermostat

Cause of leakage: Aging or failure of the internal sealing ring of the thermostat can lead to coolant leakage.

Solution: Replace the thermostat.

4. Expansion tank and water pipe

Cause of leakage: The expansion tank may age, and the return pipe connecting the expansion tank may also age or break due to material problems.

Solution: Replace the expansion tank or the water pipe.

5. Turbocharger return pipe

Cause of leakage: The water pipe joints are prone to aging and fracture if exposed to high temperature and high pressure environments for long.

Solution: Use a modified return pipe instead.
