Functions of EGR valve and its failure symptoms

09-25,2024

Main functions of an EGR valve in an automotive engine:

Reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx): The EGR valve dilutes intake mixture by reintroducing some exhaust gas into the intake system, thus decreasing combustion temperature and reducing the amount of NOx generated.

Improve combustion efficiency: The EGR system can optimize the combustion process, making the engine more efficient in different operating conditions. By adjusting the proportion of exhaust gas, it leads to more complete combustion and increases the output per unit of energy.

Decrease engine temperature: After introducing exhaust gas, the intake temperature will decrease, which helps prevent engine overheating and improve operational stability of the engine.

Reduce emissions of hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO): By improving the combustion process, the EGR valve helps reduce amount of these harmful substances generated, thus further reducing emissions of the car.

Common failure symptoms of an EGR valve:

1. The valve is unable to open and close normally.

2. There is exhaust gas leakage when the EGR valve is closed.

3. The valve is unable to receive or execute control instructions.

vika STO EGR valve

Improvements adopted by vika STO EGR valve:

1. The clapboard of vika STO EGR valve is made of 304 stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion and rust.

2. The steel ball of vika EGR valve is made of 304 stainless steel, which is highly resistant to corrosion and rust.

3. The vika EGR valve body is made of 304 stainless steel. It features higher strength thanks to a press fitting assembly method and a welding process.

4. The aluminum parts of vika EGR valve are treated by means of hard anodizing, which leads to excellent corrosion and rust resistance and greater durability.
