Causes of water leakage in an automotive auxiliary electronic water pump and solutions
02-05,2025
Water leakage is a common failure for an automotive auxiliary electronic water pump. It may result in engine overheating or even damage. The following are some common causes and solutions:
1. Aged or damaged sealing ring
Cause: The sealing ring of the water pump may age, deform or damage after long use, leading to water leakage.
Solution: Replace the sealing ring.
2. Crack in the water pump housing
Cause: Cracks may develop in the pump housing due to external impact or long use under high temperature, causing water leakage.
Solution: Check the water pump housing. If there is any crack, replace the entire pump.
3. Damaged water pump impeller
Cause: A damaged water pump impeller may result in imbalanced pressure in the pump and consequently cause water leakage.
Solution: Check the impeller and replace it if it’s damaged.
4. Corrosion caused by coolant
Cause: If the coolant is inferior in quality or is not replaced after prolonged use, internal components of the water pump may be corroded and lead to water leakage.
Solution: Use high-quality coolant and inspect its conditions regularly.
5. Wear of water pump bearing
Cause: Wear of the water pump bearing may cause eccentricity of the water pump shaft and consequently result in water leakage.
Solution: Replace the water pump shaft or the whole water pump.
6. Loose water pump joint
Cause: Loose or poorly sealed joint between the water pump and water pipe can cause water leakage.
Solution: Inspect the joint. Retighten it or replace the sealing pad.
7. Water pump overheating
Cause: If the water pump operates under high temperature for long, the seal may fail and lead to water leakage.
Solution: Inspect the cooling system, and make sure the water pump works in the normal temperature range.
Technical improvements of vika STO electronic auxiliary water pump:
1. The integrated circuit board of STO electronic auxiliary water pump features a unique design, and is manufactured with placement machines imported from Japan. The problem of high-temperature burndown has been effectively addressed;
2. The inner diameter of the water inlet of STO electronic auxiliary water pump is enlarged by 3 mm , and consequently the water flow is increased by 23%;
3. The head of STO electronic auxiliary water pump is based on a full R-angle transition design, which leads to smooth water discharge, high pressure resistance, and excellent heat dissipation;
4. The head and body of STO electronic auxiliary water pump are assembled using fully automatic torsional power control wrench of Siemens, and is subject to 100% air tightness testing to ensure good sealing without water leakage.
