Regular maintenance methods for electronic fuel pump

The internal parts of an electronic fuel pump (e.g., the plunger and cylinder barrel of a roller type fuel pump) match each other in a very precise way. Hence, the key to extending the service life of a fuel pump is to keep the fuel highly clean, and to clean all filter screens according to operation and maintenance requirements at regular intervals (cloth with fiber should not be used for cleaning). This will prevent the fuel pump from being stuck by impurities or experiencing early wear.

For a built-in electronic fuel pump, it is prohibited to start the engine forcibly if the fuel in the fuel tank is insufficient. When the fuel pump is taken out of the fuel tank for test, each power-on cycle should not exceed 6 seconds. This is because long cooling without gasoline may easily cause the fuel pump motor winding to burn out.

Since an electronic fuel pump features integral encapsulation, it is non-repairable. Once it is damaged, it should be replaced with a new fuel pump of the same model. If a fuel pump of a different model is used, the pump oil pressure may fail to reach desired level and consequently lead to abnormal performance.
